I DON'T TALK ABOUT MY LOVE LIFE

Failed Marriages. Romps with younger lovers. Near-nude acting. Partner-snatching brouhaha. Actress Shan George has been in the news for many things that have nothing to do with acting. So when CelebrityWorld dragged her away from all the drama and controversies, she was glad to open up on her views concerning Nigeria’s movie industry…
Excerpts
You have been producing acting and modeling for some time. But all of a sudden, you went a little bit underground. And now with a new film “The Zebra Man”. What actually inspired the movie?
What inspired the ‘The Zebra man” the need to grow further, to impact, to extend our tentacles form Nigeria, Africa to the other parts of the world. That’s what basically inspired the movie. The need to impact, to grow and cross borders.
What challenges do you foresee during the shoot?
Well like the saying goes, nothing good comes easy. It’s not really been easy and I’m not even expecting it to get easier. But I have prepared myself, my mind. I have prepared myself psychologically, mentally, physically, financially and other wise for it and I put God first.
What message do you intend to pass across with the movie?
It’s a comedy. It is more like something to entertain you. Something to ease off your stress. Like you went to work, you face the entire hold up, and all the okada and bus drivers are hitting you and they are claiming that you drove badly when they are the ones at that drove badly. And after all have been said and done, you get home and you’re stressed out. Then there is something to make you laugh. So the story is comedy. Something to entertain you. It’s not too bent on you want to get married or we want to teach you on how you will relate with your father. Ninety-percent entertainment and it has a lot of musical performances.
Combining Movie production, acting and singing at the same time. Don’t you think you’re dipping your fingers into too much?
No, I like to correct that impression. I am not doing many things at a time. I may be doing a lot of things but not the same time. I’m taking them one at a time and that’s how I have been handling it all. I take the time like say ok, in the next two months, I will be doing so and so movies. Then I take time off like a week or two. Then I plan to do what next I want to do and what I want to do now is in the next six weeks, I will be doing a music track. That’s how I do it.
Why did you choose Spain as your next point of call in your movie career?
Actually, I didn’t chose Spain, Spain choose me.
How did that happen?
It happened through correspondence, through the internet. Personally through the internet. There is this school mate of mine; we went to UNILAG together.  His name is Niyi Babade. He actually started the introduction. And he introduced me to the guy who contacted him that they will like to take part in Nollywood movies. And he said to them an old school mate of mine is in the movie industry right now. Then they said they needed someone who can actually produce it not only act. Then this Niyi guy called me and told me about them. Then he gave them my e-mail address then we started corresponding and here we are. They are in Nigeria.
How much will the movie be setting you back, financially?
The movie is a very capital intensive movie. It is costing much because we are using the best and the newest technology. We are using best hands, we are using the big Nollyhood actors and because of that, we are part sponsoring. We are like after the whole budget, they will bring part of it then we bring part of it. We constituting  myself and my boy friend, Akin Jayeola.
What informed the choice of the Nigerian acts?
I have been producing movies since 1998 and I have actually worked with at least more than 80 percent of the Nollywood actor’s .So what actually gives the total conviction about who plays what is first of all, the story line. Secondly, characterization and thirdly the artistic direction of the artiste. For now, these people -Basorge (Tariah Jnr), Segun Arinze, Sam Loco Efe – they are the esteemed individuals that are there and I think they will bring out something very fantastic.
What has actually happened to your musical career?
I have done the music and I’m still trying a shoot the video. For now, even this movie am shooting, the role am playing in it is a role of a singer and am going to be doing a lot of my tracks. So the music thing is still very much alive.
Can you tell us the titles of some of the tracks?
There is one called “Ogogo”. The whole album is in my native language..
Why?
Because I’m trying to promote our own thing. Our own culture, our own language, our own song. Because people like Awilo sing what they sing and we don’t even understand what they are saying. And we didn’t even understand what they are saying. And we really enjoyed music, we club, we party and I don’t see why we can’t do own music in our own dialect and culture and feel that kind of impact Awilo made. So am trying to do that now.
You have been in the news in the ast few months for several resons relating to your love life, how true is it that you have just gotten married?
I don’t talk about my love life anymore. And people should stop disseminate information that are not true. Thank you.
What is your opinion about Nollywood with all the many crises around it?
When people keep saying all the problems in Nollywood, all the problems in Nollywood, I keep wondering what they are talking about. There is no problem in Nollywood that they don’t have in other industries. You can see the problems we have in the education sector, even the health sector. Every sector in Nigeria is having problems. But I don’t see them as problems.  I see them as challenges and I see them as things we will definitely work on and get by. Just a matter of time. The only challenge I see in the movie industry is not in the political problem; it’s in the distribution of our products. That’s why they keep saying there’s piracy everywhere. If for example you make a very good movie and you advertise it, you paste posters and all that. And people see these adverts and really want to watch it and you the distributor didn’t even print enough to cover Lagos State, how do you want people in Ibadan to see it? They will pirate it because people are asking for it. Some guy somewhere who feels you are not doing your job very well will help you do your job. Another attitude they have in Nollywood is that, when a movie comes out, after a month you don’t even get to see it on the street again. Then if you that have the movie don’t do it then someone will do your job for you.

Nollywood Superstar Omotola at the Grammy's

Was it such a disastrous Grammy appearance?
Was it?
Take a look at the photographs below and be the Judge?
Omotola at the 2011 Grammy Awards
Well, I guess, this is what celebrities ought to expect – the good, the bad and the ugly.
When the going is good, it is really, really good. However, when its bad, it can be ugly as well, as a national article has campaigned.
The article below, which lampooned “Ije” Nollywood Super star actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde was culled from a national newspaper here in Nigeria. I can, in a way, relate to the grievance of the writer. In Nigeria, we take pride in our appearance. Omotola has been nicknamed “Omosexy” and it was unanimously accepted, judging by newspaper articles as well as nollywood fans’ reactions that she was nowhere near sexy. As far as I have been following the Grammys, I can recollect Femi Kuti has been nominated twice (I think?) and so was Sunny Ade (I think ?…my inability to recollect has nothing to do with my eye sight (oh sorry, age?), I can assure you), but none have ever been photographed at the Grammy. So the first ever Nigerian celebrity that has been, hasn’t done justice to the opportunity to showcase Nigeria as a fashionista state.

The vituperation used in the article was downright unfair if I were to say so. Yes, the outfit might not have gone down well with fans, but hey….that was her choice. Anyway, read on and let me know your thoughts.

Grammy Disaster: Fans rip Omosexy!
Actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde made history last Sunday being the first Nollywood actress to walk the red carpet at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. But her well-intentioned appearance was jeopardised by her black and white prom-like dress which dealt dastardly with her tummy, arms, over-sized butts, miniature breasts, doing absolutely nothing to flatter any part of her body.

From her hair down to underwear, fans criticised the otherwise gorgeous screen diva. Many felt badly represented by her fashion sense, comparing her to 'rival' Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic and even Ini Edo. It's obvious that more than 60 per cent of Nollywood fans expected a more 'decent' show off from the respectable wife and mother of four.
While many agree that she needs a gym membership urgently, a few others opine that patronising Ardyss Body Magic would have solved some of the problem apart from the bad dress pick. Below is an excerpt of some of the grievances and defence as posted by Omotola's fans on the internet.

The budding singer was reportedly accompanied by her new international management team "Bishop Entertainment consult & Bungalow/Universal records.

PASUMA READY WITH REALITY SHOW

Fuji star ,Wasiu Alabi Pasuma  has  initiated a new reality TV show  in search of the next fuji star tagged "OHUN". The show according to the 43 years old Kwara born singer is aimed at discovering new talents in the fuji music industry and forms are already on sale at all  Oceanic bank branches  nationwide for # 2000.  Audition for the show will take place in four cities Ikeja, Ibadan Akure and Ilorin in June 2011 while the grand finale will hold in Lagos in August 2011. Speaking on the show he said “ Ohun was initiated by management company AO21 Media  in November 2008 but for one  reason or the other we could not kick off till now. There are quite a lot of Music talent shows but all seem  focussed on Hip hop, Pop and RNB and no one is paying  attention to Fuji music.  Fuji music is the most popular Indigenous music in Nigeria but what happens when my generation stops singing ? . There are quite a lot talented young men out
there who wants to sing fuji music but since no one is encouraging them their talent is just wasting away. Over the years i have wondered if someone will ever though of doing A Fuji talent show  and rather than wait more i have taken up the responsibility to contribute my own quota to the growth of fuji music. I am optimistic Ohun will open doors for more Fuji talent show s and the more credible shows like ours the better it is for the industry” He was queried further on why the show is tagged Ohun and he said “  My manager came about the name. When he mentioned Ohun i figured it like any other person that it means Voice of Fuji but he explained to me that Ohun is not just Voice but also Sound, Melody, beat, rhythm, etc. I sat down and think deeply and realized that Ohun means everything in music including message (lyrics) and sometimes used as slang. Ohun is very deep so also Fuji music so i did not hesitate to agree to his suggestion that we
name it OHUN”    On sponsors and prizes to be won he commented that “Well we don’t have a sponsor for now but hope to get one. This is not about making money for me. I am very passionate about it because i am giving something back to the society. I am giving people opportunities to explore their talent and also might be taking some people off the street. I hope we get sponsors because a lot of money will go into this project. A lot of people in the past one year had wanted to partner with us but because they are all about money we turned them down until EIC Communication came in as a partner with Genuine motive for the growth of Fuji music.

The winner will get a car , cash prize and record deal while the second and third runners up will get cash prizes and record deal. For me it is not only about what the winner gets but what becomes of him after the show. The winner will ride on the platform of Pasuma Wonder to stardom. Whenever i have a concert he will be on stage with me and anytime i am going on tour i will take him with me. At least for 12 months he will get maximum exposure performing on stage with me and i also will employ the service of one of the best Fuji music producers to work on his album”

TONI PAYNE DENIES "AFFAIR".......

Shortly after separation from her husband of one year, Abolore Akande popularly known as 9ice, embattled mother of one, Toni Payne has been in the news for one reason or the other over the past few months.

Last week, a picture of the American trained manager, Toni Payne and a slim tall gentle man, name unknown, were spotted hugging passionately, looking into each others eyes like lovers, started circulating around town. These photographs have left tongues wagging leaving several questions left in people’s minds.

Our sources have it that the picture has been seen as a screen saver on her Blackberry. 'Her picture with that of the tall gentle man was on her blackberry wallpaper for days and am sure it’s her newly found love because of the position they both are in the pictures' spilled our source.

When Rockshockent called Toni Payne for her own side of the story she had this to say:
'I am getting tired of the whole issue now. Someone stole the pictures from my phone and it’s a picture of a Photo shoot. Life is not that hard and that is not fear. I have seen the photographs as well and I am putting finishing touches to an arrangement with my lawyers to sue the source that I know. The source is also the genesis of all these problems. I cannot walk out with my brother or cousins as they will write, and the source did not even call to confirm the photographs, which is bad and unfair. I am working hard to face the future better, and put things behind me. I am sure this will also be put behind me as well. They should just let me be, as she concluded.

Rockshockent will keep you up to date as events unfold.

Dele Momodu dismisses cynics over Ovation TV

Sequel to the news making waves around town on the proposed cable television station planned for the National Conscience Party Presidential candidate and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Chief Dele Momodu. Sources last week have it that the celebrity publisher is currently waiting for grants from investors who are keen on his Presidential ambition and are ready to fund it. Stories also have it that part of the funds will be used to start up the delayed project which is supposed to have kicked off sometime last year.

'We know fully well that he can not win the Presidential election but he is still expecting some funds from the Labour Party in the U.K, which, a spilled a close source to the publisher said, he is almost through with the processing'.

When Rockshock Entertainment contacted him via a text message, his response via the same medium was as follows:

'Totally false bros. Was planning Ovation TV long ago but the collapse of world economy affected that. We were to use HiTV initially but negotiations broke down with Toyin. Then we opted for DSTV. And that has been in the cooler.I have no foreign donors. It is total falsehood.', he concluded.

The red carpet was lit up by celebrities like Uti, Ini Edo, Uche Jombo, Julius Agwu, Bryan Okwara, Coco Couture, James Lulu (bag designer) and many more.
Many media houses within and outside Abuja like, Studio 53 extra, Jara on Mnet, Sound City, Spice tv, Hot Fm, Bella Naija, Rhythm 94.7,wow magazine and many more, turned up to lend their support to the noble cause. Celebrities like Ini Edo, Uche Jombo and Uti Nwachukwu came with their team of bowlers to contest against each other in a bowling game and the winner had to square up against the best of Abuja bowlers, team uche won the bowling game.

“What we came here to do today is something real. Do you know there are people in very remote areas that when they examine their breast and see a lump, they’ll say it’s something spiritual; it’s the devil, but in reality it’s a cancer lump. Such women are the ones we’re really trying to reach out to”
Ini Edo on her part said cancer is a disease that takes away from every woman and needs to be stopped.
Mrs. Ada, a breast cancer survivor spoke on the need for all, including men to constantly examine themselves for possible traces of lumps as that remain the best and easiest way to detect early signs of the disease.
Caleb Egwuenu the Project Director of the Stand Up To Cancer Naija the host organization talked on how more awareness is needed in the grass root, he reiterated the fact that those in the grassroots are they reason the event Bowling for Boobs was organized.
